Feeling Sick? Signs You Should Go to Urgent Care

When you just aren’t feeling well, you may find yourself wondering what you should do about your symptoms. Many people tend to just suffer through their illness to see if it will go away on its own.

However, there are some symptoms that should be cause for concern and should send you to urgent care as soon as possible. Get to know some of these signs and symptoms. Then, you can head to urgent care when you are struggling with these issues.

  1. Serious Ear Pain

One of the types of pain that can be the most frustrating in daily life is ear pain. When your ears hurt, any movement of the head or sound can send sharp, shooting pains into your inner ear. If you have serious ear pain that is affecting your ability to function, then you should head to urgent care.

More than likely, your ear pain is a sign of an ear infection or sinus infection. However, ear pain can sometimes be secondary to another condition in the throat, jaw, or even a brain issue.  The sooner you go to urgent care, the sooner the symptoms can be resolved, and you can hear without pain.

  1. Swollen Lymph Nodes

The lymphatic system is responsible for removing toxins from the body. Throughout the lymphatic system, several nodes work to process out those toxins. Two of those nodes are in the neck, just beneath the jawline.

If you notice that you have little lumps or swollen bumps in your neck, then you likely have swollen lymph nodes and you should head to urgent care to get checked out. Swollen lymph nodes are signs of some type of infection in the body. The infection can be a flu, strep throat, or another type of infection that requires antibiotic or antiviral medical treatment.

  1. Persistent Fever

When you have a low-grade fever, or if you have a fever for only a few hours and then it passes, you likely do not need to be concerned about the fever enough to go to urgent care. However, if that fever lasts for more than a 24-hour period or becomes high-grade (over 101 degrees), you will want to go to urgent care.

Having a fever means that your body is trying to fight off an infection. Many such infections would benefit from medical interventions. Antiviral flu medications can be administered if you go to the doctor within the first 48 hours of experiencing symptoms, for example. And antibiotics work even faster for bacterial infections in the early stages of the infection.

  1. Sore Throat

If you have a severe sore throat, particularly one that makes it painful and difficult to swallow or one that is accompanied with white bumps on the back of the throat, you may have strep throat. Strep throat is a type of bacterial infection that can become quite serious if left untreated.

You do not want to allow your sore throat to worsen before you get medical care and consultation. So if you have a sore throat, go to urgent care as soon as possible. The medical professionals there can help relieve the soreness.

  1. Vomiting and Diarrhea

Stomach troubles are never fun. If you are vomiting or have diarrhea for a period longer than 24 hours, then you should head to urgent care right away. You need to get these symptoms under control as soon as possible because they can cause severe dehydration.

Vomiting and diarrhea can be signs of a variety of health issues. Sometimes, strep throat can cause such symptoms whereas gastrointestinal infections like salmonella can also cause problems with vomiting and diarrhea.

If you experience these signs and symptoms, make sure that you head straight to your local premier urgent care office so you can get the best care possible.
